THE BIG SHOW ROLLS INTO
THE SPRING CONFERENCE: MOBILE CONCRETE LAB
For nearly three years the Carolinas Chapter has been pursuing the
Mobile Concrete Lab (MCL) of the Federal Highway Administration to
be the headliner at a conference. Thanks to the persistence of Board
member Tara Cavalline of UNC-Charlotte, the deal is done and the MCL
will at our Spring Conference at the Hilton Inn Garden Suites across
from South Pointe Mall in Durham, one of our favorite and best
attended conference sites. The MCL will be on-site for two days,
providing the opportunity for small groups to walk-through and see
the latest and greatest advances in concrete repair. In addition,
Jagan Gudimettla, P.E., MCL Project Engineer and his staff will be
able to offer live demonstrations on dowel bar alignment and slab
thickness measurement.

In addition to the MCL, we have a great line-up of other speakers: a
two-part “Bridge Preservation Workshop” on the NCDOT Bridge Program
with Mike Summers and Load Testing and Corrosion Testing on Bridges
with Setrajit Das, PhD, PE, both of WSP Sells in Cary, a Legal
Update with ICRI Legal Counsel Andy Anderson and a presentation on
Shotcrete with Ray Schallom, Shotcrete Consultant of RCS Consulting
& Construction of Ripley, WV.
PRE-CONFERENCE SPRING CHAPTER GOLF TOURNAMENT
If you have always wanted to play Brier Creek Country Club in
Raleigh, NC, here's your chance; we’ve added Thursday golf before
the Friday one-day conference. The Carolinas Chapter has secured tee
times for Thursday morning, March 8, 2012 at 10:00am but there are
0nly 40 slot available. You can get in a round of golf at this great
course and then slide over to the Hilton Inn Garden Suites for a
catered Hospitality Suite courtesy of the Summit Hospitality Group
starting at 5:00pm.
The cost is $95.00 includes cart fee, 2 drink tix and boxed lunch
and a special bonus “bounce back” coupon good for another free round
at a later date at Brier Creek Country Club. This will give the
“bounce back” coupon holder a future round for only the cart fee and
the foursome can be filled out for the accompanied guest rate which
is $67/person. There is only one restriction: it can only be used
Tuesday thru Thursday after 11:00am.
